Site Development: Handbook for Widows

January 1, 2010

Corrine Jacobson is the author of A Handbook For Widows, which is a practical guide for those who have recently lost a spouse. Corrine is in her 80’s and spends most of her time volunteering for The City of Fort Worth’s visitor bureau. After self-publishing her book through Lulu and setting up distribution on Amazon.com, she came to me looking for a low-cost website and a Virtual Assistant to maintain it for her .

WordPress site handbookforwidows.comOur goals were to 1) create a static website…not a blog…using WordPress, 2) spend as little as possible since Corrine is retired and on a fixed income, 3) create an easy-to-read and “not somber” site to showcase her book.

We chose a colorful free template, added several free plugins and widgets, and set her up on low-cost hosting through Justhost.com that only costs her $3.95 per month.

Here is the result: handbookforwidows.com

If anyone you know has recently lost a spouse consider giving them this book instead of a card. I promise you they will find it both valuable and comforting.
